Restriction Cascade for Confluence: Documentation
Restriction Cascade makes Confluence page restrictions flow down page trees, and lets space admins change restrictions on many pages at once with a preview and undo.
Getting started
- Install the app from the Atlassian Marketplace.
- Open a space, go to Space settings, and open Restriction Cascade. Only space admins can open it.
Inheritance rules
A rule says "pages under this top page get the same restrictions as the page above them".
- Operations. Edit restrictions, and optionally view restrictions.
- Merge or mirror. Merge adds missing users and groups from the page above and keeps extra ones. Mirror makes the page match the page above exactly.
- Keep the page author on the edit list. The person who created the page keeps edit access.
- Excluded sub-trees. Pages under an excluded page are left alone. Rules apply automatically when pages are created, moved or copied under the top page. To apply a rule to pages that already exist, tick Also apply to pages that already exist under the top page when you save it, or run a Cascade job in Bulk changes.
Bulk changes
Add, remove or replace users and groups on a whole tree, or cascade the top page's restrictions down.
- Every job starts as a preview that lists exactly which pages would change.
- Jobs run in the background in batches and can be cancelled.
- Undo this change restores each page to how it was before the job, for 30 days. If someone changed a page's restrictions after the job ran, undo skips that page and says so, so it never overwrites newer changes.
- Jobs run as the admin who started them, so they never touch pages that admin cannot see.
- The app never removes the last restriction from a page.
Activity
Recent automatic inheritance and bulk jobs, kept for 30 days.
Restricted pages report
Lists every page in a tree or the whole space with its own view or edit restrictions, who can view and edit it, and whether it is in line with its inheritance rule. Download it as CSV. Reports are kept for 30 days.
Limits
- Bulk jobs stop at 5,000 pages and reports at 20,000 pages.
- Pages nobody can access are reported as "No access" instead of being skipped silently.
Pricing
Free for up to 10 users. Paid via Atlassian above that, billed by Atlassian.
Privacy and security
The app runs only on Atlassian's infrastructure, with no outside servers, and stores its data in Forge storage on your site. See the Privacy Policy.
